Orlando Resort Offers Cicada Escape Packages for Bug-Burdened

KISSIMMEE, FL May 28, 2004 -– While Orlando is the vacation capital of the world, it isn’t on the itinerary for one pesky visitor. Cicadas, emerging from the group after a 17-year slumber, are not expected to visit Orlando.

And, for one Central Florida resort, it’s an opportunity for a special promotion: The Great Cicada Escape.

“What better place to escape?” said public relations manager Keith Salwoski. “We can offer a luxurious Florida-themed environment where a lounge by the pool is literally thousands of miles from the cicada buzz that is expected to hit the East and Midwest.”

The package, which includes a two-night stay and tickets for two to SeaWorld Orlando, also features a “Back to Reality” kit for the return home.

“The kit features earplugs to block out the noise created by the mating insects, bug repellent, and a long-sleeve souvenir shirt to help shield the bugs,” Salwoski said.

The resort, located five minutes from Walt Disney World theme parks, features innovative family-friendly facilities, the Mobil four-star Canyon Ranch SpaClub, and colorful Florida themes that carry throughout a soaring 4.5-acre glass-topped atrium and into each of the 1,406 guest rooms.

Families can also enjoy the resort’s new “Best of Florida LIVE!” exhibits, featuring live alligators, native Florida turtles, and non-venomous snakes.

Guests can also see what’s new at Orlando’s world-famous theme parks, including the new Waterfront activities area at SeaWorld, “Mission: Space” at Epcot, “Mickey’s PhilharMagic” at Magic Kingdom, and “Revenge of the Mummy - The Ride” at Universal Orlando.

Offer is valid through June 30, 2004. Subject to availability. Package price (per night) is $219 plus tax. Not valid for groups, with other offers or promotions, or on existing reservations.

To make a reservation, guests should call the Gaylord Palms reservation office at 407-586-2000.
